Ex. George Kamin Collection
Superb, large, totally solid specimen of very dense nodular black uraninite, cut on one face to show the fascinating composition of these unique super high-grade uranium ore specimens, in which a core of black uraninite is surrounded by a colorful rim of bright yellow-orange secondary “gummite” group uranium minerals including becquerelite, soddyite, schoepite, and uranophane. This is from a famous one-time find in 1956 at the Lookout #22 Claim, Marshall Pass, Saguache County, Colorado, USA, and was previously in the collection of famed mineralogist and geologist Eugene B. Gross, who authored the paper in the American Mineralogist in the early 1960’s describing this unique find. I was fortunate to obtain a small suite of these amazing specimens as part of the Dr. George Kamin collection and this is my LAST ONE, and to be honest it is doubtful I will ever get any more of these specimens in this quality given how rare this material is! This basically maxes out my Ludlum Model 3 Counter with the 44-9 probe by the way, for what it’s worth. A rare and beautiful piece of Atomic Age history!!
