Very impressive cluster of large, well-formed crystals of the rare Scandium mineral Thortveitite to nearly 12 cm (!!) from the Kåbuland 01 Feldspar Quarry (Amerika), Kåbuland, Iveland, Agder, Norway. This is a magnificent example of this rare mineral, in monster-size crystals. This was collected by legendary Norwegian field collector Tom Aurebekk Udø (1972-2018) around fifteen years ago, and was one of only a handful of Thortveitite specimens of this magnitude collector by him in his lifetime. All other such specimens collected by Udø are in museums so sadly after his premature passing there will likely be no more amazing finds like this from the famous Iveland pegmatite district. Repaired in 3 places, as is basically ubiquitous for all large crystals of this brittle, rock-locked mineral, but the repairs are well-done and not visible. Comes with a custom acrylic display base by Sunnywood. Rare!! Mark Cross photo.
